Virtual reality technology has been embraced across different parts and industries thanks to its immense benefits. Across the US, it is highly applicable in the workplace as it offers employees an easy opportunity to engage with others remotely. This is why it is seen as a bridge between the employee and the employer. Barry, a character simulated by Talespin, a Culver City, California-based start-up that creates and develops virtual, mixed and augmented reality learning and training tools have been fired several times. This is not because he is the world’s worst employee.
However, Barry’s moods change often and range from defensive to top despondent based on how participants deliver news including bad news. Firing Barry is still not an easy task and this is it. Talespin’s simulation is part of a modern VR training program that is designed to teach several skills including soft skills such as letting people, including long term employees, go without letting them fly into a rage of emotions or to start sobbing.
Talespin’s workplace simulation technology has undoubtedly has caught the attention of Santa Monica, Cornerstone OnDemand enterprise learning and talent management software company. The company is starting to explore development and learning industry with the Director of Product Management Elvis Ha that leads the charge.
“Where we’re seeing the most opportunity is with soft skills, leadership skills and diversity and inclusion,” he said and added, ‘they are the most desired skills to develop across all the organizations that we work with. And that carries through to virtual reality.”
The International Data Corporation estimates that VR and AR market training will continue to grow up to $8.5billion by 2023. Most corporations are already investing in different applications that teach employees how to safely operate equipment and complete complex tasks. For instance, Farmers Insurance worked with Talespin to create and develop an incredible VR experience to trim claims adjusters on assessing in home damage. KFC also created an amazing VR experience model following an escape room to teach new employees how chicken can be fried in less than 10mins.
